DPF Cleaning Peterborough

Most diesel vehicles from 2005 onwards have a DPF, but what is a DPF and how do they work?

A DPF is an emissions based filter that is part of the exhaust system. Engines emit harmful exhaust gases, one of them being soot. For environmental reasons the DPF is fitted to modern vehicles, its job is to collect the soot leaving the engine. Secondly to burn off the soot in the DPF in a process called ‘regeneration’.

A regeneration occurs when the following circumstances are met:

  • The engine is up to full operating temperature

  • The vehicle is being driven continuously for around 20 minutes or more

  • The roads being used are of 60mph plus and the revs are between 2-3000rpm.

During this process of regeneration the DPF heats up to around 600 degrees to burn off all the soot and the cycle of collecting and removing the soot continues.

Why do they go wrong?

  • Vehicle usage and routes

  • Stop start journeys

  • Short journeys, engine never hits the prime operating temperature

  • Low speed journeys not involving faster roads of 60mph or above.

  • Mechanical failure

  • Defective DPF pressure sensors

  • Defective DPF pressure pipes

  • Defective temperature sensors

  • Engine boost leak

The Problem

Once the DPF is 40% full for safety reasons the DPF can no longer regenerate/clean by itself, a DPF clean will be required.

Signs of a blocked DPF:

  • DPF warning and or symbol on the dashboard lit up

  • Engine management light, coil light flashing and potentially limp mode (lack of power)

  • Sometimes you may get all or just one of the above signs

The Solution

Our Three Stage DPF Clean

We flush the DPF filter with two specialist chemicals that are designed to remove soot. We then add a fuel additive to aid with the DPF regeneration and emissions.

As part of the process we will do full diagnostics to check the cause of the fault where we analyze the DPF data and check the DPF pressure, soot and ash level. Once the clean has been completed we re-analyze the data to confirm that the clean has been successful.

On diagnostics we will then ask the vehicle to do a forced-regeneration of the DPF, ensuring the vehicle is able to do this and that the DPF is clean and operating as it should.

As part of the price, we will also do a boost leak test of the engine and DPF pressure pipes. This test is to ensure there are no engine boost leaks. Also to check that the DPF pressure pipes aren’t split.

Occasionally parts may be needed and we can quote you for this.

And finally free advice to help you avoid getting another blocked DPF.

  • DPF warning and or symbol on the dashboard lit up

  • Engine management light, coil light flashing and potentially limp mode (lack of power)

  • Sometimes you may get all or just one of the above signs

What’s included in the price?

  • 3 Stage DPF clean

  • Full engine diagnostics to check the health of the vehicle

  • Before and after analytics of the DPF data

  • Boost leak test on the engine and DPF pressure pipes

  • Helpful and friendly advice

What’s the cost?

£249 inc vat, or why not spread the cost using our pay monthly scheme?

You can pay just four payments £62.25, the first payment is taken via debit card on the day of the work. Leaving just three simple payments to pay over the following three months.
